Website Call to Action

An effective call to action is an essential element of your websites online advertising presence.A call to action asks the website visitor to take an appropriate action, such as “click here” or “register now”.

Some website designers and search engine marketing professionals feel that it is important to say just WHY a person must “click here”, however as shown by the banners above, “click here” is a fairly well known and successful phrase used by many small to large companies.The text on the banner needs to convey a clear and informative message, such as “free insurance” or “save now”; a sense of urgency or the idea of saving money are both good structures.The look of the call to action banner needs to be eye-catching, and easy to comprehend for the wandering mind. Large fonts, effective colors and phrasing all add up to make the call to action effective.

What Not To Do Online

spamming = bad idea

I spoke with a client the other day who was wishing to blast email 20,000 people subscribed to an unrelated mailing list with the permission of the mailing lists owner. I informed the client that this was considered spamming as the people who signed up for this list did not sign up to hear about his business idea. Even if there was a clause in the newsletter’s terms upon signup allowing for this – why would you want to piss off 20,000 people?

This is one of the absolute worst things that one can do online, period. Spamming does not work. Half or 10,000 of those emails could easily end up in junkmail filters. Some could be reported and possibly result in the blacklisting of your email address or domain name! And even if you get four or five sales off this, you also managed to piss off and inconvenience 19,996 other people!
